Tuesday Highlights

Good morning.

  1. OWS and excellence.
  2. Security FAIL.
  3. Tick, tick tick … when will it go boom?
  4. Man as industrious ant … and the speed of reclamation when we leave.
  5. The real question was who thought sending the two women to that event was a good idea?
  6. A question for the anti-gun nuts … how else is this going to be dealt with?
  7. Big Tobacco, the most successful green movement out there.
  8. Pithy summation of history.
  9. I don’t think that’s the point. I’d imagine every campus has a constant flood of sexual scandals which it is dealing with. The trick which Penn failed to notice was this one in particular need action not coverup.

  1. OWS and excellence.

Sums up so much of the idiotic optimism & elitism of the right. It’s like the Steinbeck quote, “socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”

All the idiot Joe the Plumbers think that they or their children are going to be in the top 1% any day now while simultaneously denouncing the poor as lazy losers.

I haven’t been commenting much lately because it’s so disheartening even engaging with this idiocy. Grow up and learn something about the actual world, not your propaganda.

The OWS is not for mediocrity. They’re not protesting excellence. Open your damn mind.

  2. JA,

Grow up and learn something about the actual world, not your propaganda.

I live in the actual world. I volunteer at a homeless shelter. What pretense do you have of living in the real world besides treating as gospel the left wing echo machine?

The OWS is not for mediocrity.

OK. What are they for? Where have you *ever* seen a coherent statement from them. Or are you just projecting onto them that which you *wish* they were for?

  3. I live in the actual world. I volunteer at a homeless shelter.

Oh really? So tell me, are people homeless because they are lazy? Because they believe in mediocrity or worse?

  4. JA,
Are you suggesting the OWS is not against mediocrity but that better care for the mentally ill is their primary issue?

  5. WTF? Talking to you is trippy.

    Me: “I like eggs.”
You: “Are you saying that the only reason the world hasn’t ended yet is because of eggs??”
    Me: WTF??

  6. JA,

    Talking to you is trippy

That’s because I respond to what you actually said, not what you pretended to write.

Let’s see, you started by saying the OWS isn’t protesting excellence and that I should “join the real world.” You countered that, oh, you’re in the real world, what about those homeless you mentioned (which is your first trippy remark in that the OWS are definitely not the homeless, and they objected and started complaining when the actual homeless intruded on their squatting space). So, why are the most of the semi-permanent homeless in that state? Answer: It’s mostly due to addictions and mental illness. But when I respond to your actual comment (about why the homeless are such) and point out that this isn’t an OWS issue at all (and it isn’t) … that is trippy? Whatever. Look in the mirror dude. That’s where you’ll find the topic trippiness. Or are you suggesting that when you meander off topic with a remark I shouldn’t follow?

  7. That’s because I respond to what you actually said, not what you pretended to write.

Please indicate where I suggested “that better care for the mentally ill is their primary issue.” I bet you can’t.

The homeless stuff was a somewhat separate topic (really a broader picture) in response to your boast that you volunteer at a shelter. My point was that if you actually have contact with homeless people, you should know that the whole right-wing meme that economic success and failure are all about laziness and hard work is a crock.

  8. JA,

Please indicate where I suggested “that better care for the mentally ill is their primary issue.” I bet you can’t.

Your “it’s not laziness” indicated that you thought laziness/not-laziness was relevant. It’s not.

you should know that the whole right-wing meme that economic success and failure are all about laziness and hard work is a crock.

Alas you’re crock is cracked. You brought up the problem of the homeless and their problems are is mostly about mental illness and addictions. Which is why your attempt twist to connect my alleged “disconnect with reality” and the the OWS was, well trippy, on your part.

Let’s see, do you think that laziness (which is a proxy in this case for a lot of things … but whatever) is ever a factor in economic failure? Do you think that a failure learn in school a skill which is marketable never happens and never contributes to economic failure?

And I will admit that the “failure to take your meds” is a symptom of mental illness, but it’s hard to not also see that as a failure of personal responsibility. There are many many people who do manage to “take their meds” and not end up in shelters.

  9. JA,

Please indicate where I suggested “that better care for the mentally ill is their primary issue.” I bet you can’t.

You seem to connect higher unemployment and job opportunities with increased homelessness. Cite? The attendance so far at the homeless shelter this year is down from previous years not up. As I noted, it seems to me the homeless condition is less related to job opportunity than with addiction and mental illness.

  10. I think long term homelessness is related more to mental health issues than the economy. Short term almost certainly has a higher correlation to economic condition. Keep in mind you may not see short term homeless people at shelters. For the last month I’ve been hosting a family member whose is technically homeless as she has no real address.

  11. You seem to connect higher unemployment and job opportunities with increased homelessness.

I did not connect those things, actually, although I think Boonton is probably right.

Do you think, just for fun, you might once stick to what I actually wrote during a conversation instead of making stuff up?
