Right, he’s the first president that declared the U.S. has the right to do something other nations don’t? American exceptionalism is as necessary a belief for Americans to get elected these days as theism is.
I don’t remember you making fun of Bush when he unironically criticized Russia for invading another country.
If the terrorists in Mumbai intended to foment hostility between Hindu India and Moslem Pakistan … why locate, torture, and kill Jews?
Because antisemitism is at pathological levels among Muslim extremists. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to assume they’ll act rationally.
Thank you.
If the terrorists in Mumbai intended to foment hostility between Hindu India and Moslem Pakistan … why locate, torture, and kill Jews?
Because anti-semitism is pandemic among Muslims and among radicals in particular serioius leaders honestly believe antisemitic story lines that hold Jews to be the secret movers of just about anything that happens in the world (anything bad that is). One could also ask why Hitler choose to spend so much time and resources killing Jews when he clearly needed all the energy he could get to take on the Russians, UK and USA all at once.
This, though, does not preclude analyzing the strategy of terrorist organizations anymore than Hitler’s antisemitism makes it impossible to ponder why he would try to take a stab at invading Russia.

I read the article but I’m not sure I quite get its point. Not just Obama but everyone of relevance says, in theory, Pakistan is up for attack if it condones international terrorism and if the attacks were sponsored by Pakistan it would be almost impossible to tell India they couldn’t do anything in response. This is your standard carrot and stick approach. Do stuff to help out and you get the carrot, insist on being unhelpful you get the stick. Now the fact is we are going to be reluctant to use the stick because Pakistan is an unstable nuclear country and our credentials as supporters of democracy there are questionable after Bush’s love-fest with their previous dictator. That doesn’t alter the fact that carrots and sticks are a sensible principle to work with here and I’m not sure I see Obama critics proposing anything more enlightened.
