Still pretending that your side is objectively correct about fetuses being persons? It’s more like, “Against contraception? Don’t use it.”
Palin:
How a Republican could say that with a straight face is beyond me.
“Bravely fighting for tax cuts for the rich” would be a little more… true.
Kurtz’s review of documents from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) — the education foundation Obama and Ayers jointly led for a time during the 1990s
The grant proposal for the CAC was written by three people, Williams Ayers, Anne Hallett and Warren Chapman.
The founding Board of Directors consisted of 8 people: Patricia Graham, Obama, Stanley Ikenberry, Arnold Weber, Raymond Romero, Wanda White, Susan Crown, and Handy Lindsey Jr.
The final Board of Directs in 2001 consisted of: Graham, Obama, Edward Bottum, Connie Evans, Susan Blankenbaker Noyes, Scott C. Smith, Nancy Searle, Victoria Chou, Jowhn McCarter Jr and JAmes Reynolds.
From this how does one conclude the CAC was run jointly by Ayers and Obama in the 90′s? As if it was done at a kitchen table!
Again and again Kurtz’s ‘study’ of the Annenberg Challenge gets the basics very wrong but the errors are always in a consistent pattern. To make the CAC appear to be some type of sinsiter joint effort of Ayers and Obama while ignoring the fact that it was a mainstream organization that enjoyed broad, very broad, based support by the Republican and Democratic elite. I know the GOP has decided that truth is something they can dispense with for political gain Mark but it’s really not a very Christian POV.
Needless to say, you mentioned Ayers again and you loose again. The fact that you guy embraces the foundation that gave Ayers $50M to begin with shows how bankrupt this whole meme has become.
Palin:
I believe that the truest measure of a society is how they treat those who are least able to defend and to speak for themselves.
How does Palin act on this principle? We see in troopergate a person abusing her power and abusing people who are under her to further a personal vendetta. In her personal life we have seen act with indifference to the safety of her son during pregnancy and we have seen the celebration of teenage pregnancy and dropping out of high school by her daughter and son-in-law to be. Both actions that have been shown over and over to lead to poverty for both adults and children. Yes I’ll ‘go there’ since the other side has no problem telling us that her being a mom and choosing to reject abortion for her last child are stances that she deserves merit for.
Pretty words are only that, in real life I see no evidence that electing Palin will help anyone unable to speak or defend themselves.
JA,
On the abortion thing, I find it odd that you can say that honestly, or should I say, “with a straight face.” You (as most people) are against late term abortions. Yet, your objections to the rhetoric does not make that distinction. You make no distinction it appears between a 100 cell blastocyst and a 28 week fetus.
Boonton,
How can you claim that in 2001 Mr Obama was ignorant of Mr Ayers past, at that point he was “outing himself” publicly standing on flags and proudly declaiming his WU background. Sorry this time you lose.
“Kurtz” study gets the “study” wrong. Are you suggesting that he is wrong that the Ayers’ grants supported teachings of that sort, i.e., oppression=America and so on?
As far as I can tell Ayers’s ‘outing himself’ in 2001 consisted of an interview on the front page of the NYT Arts Section on 9/11/08. Did anyone notice? I can’t find any evidence that they did. As you may know, lots of other things were happening on 9/11 to make the front of the NYT Arts section kind of a secont tier story. Other notables in Illinois including republicans and conservatives didn’t seem to take notice either. This is the problem with the radical meme, you got to find a way to make it work against Obama and yet excuse almost everyone else.
Are you suggesting that he is wrong that the Ayers’ grants supported teachings of that sort,
I haven’t seen any real evidence that the CAC did. I went through some of the 217 page ‘final technical report’ of the CAC and there was some stuff about funding schools based on achieving test score improvements and such (putting lie to the assertion that test score improvement was ignored). Do you have some real evidence to the effect of actual CAC grants? It seems so far much of the evidence consists of a slimy combination of spin and doubletalk ….such as the attempt to paint the CAC as some type of joint Obama-Ayers effort when in fact the board of directors was remarkably broad based.
Even more stunning is the fact that McCain has touted the support of Annenberg’s widow, the current President of the Annenberg Foundation which has never repudiated the CAC or objected to anything it did. The incoherence in this argument is amazing. You can’t serve on a board with Ayers because he’s a domestic terrorist but you can give Ayers $50m?!
You (as most people) are against late term abortions.
Am I? I know I’m uncomfortable with the idea of having a late-term abortion unless there are problems with the fetus or a risk to the mother, but I don’t think I’ve said it should be illegal.
You make no distinction it appears between a 100 cell blastocyst and a 28 week fetus.
Not true. A 28 week fetus is much closer to being a human being than a 100 cell blastocyst. I think aborting a 100-cell blastocyst is the moral equivalent of using contraception combined with elective surgery. Aborting a 28 week fetus is much more serious morally.
JA,
So, I’ve never said it should be illegal, just regulated.
Boonton,
You have a pretense that at the time of 9/11 anti-American bias went unnoticed. How soon we forget.
Well I have my own memory, and I do remember consuming a lot of news at that time but I was more focused on International issues considering the attack.
But you are correct, we do soon forget which appears to be the case with Ayers. This is why when the meme had legs I attempted to figure out how important he was at the time he made his 9/11 statements and the answer continues to be not very. You are free to confirm this by looking at the historical record.
AS I said this is the core of why this meme is so incoherent. You can’t consistently bash Obama for this unless you likewise bash a lot of other mainstream Chicago characters (Republicans and Democrats as well as people beyond Chicago) who likewise didn’t notice or didn’t care. This is a big reason why Ayers has fallend flat on its face despite the almost 24-7 hype it’s been getting from Fox & the usual suspects.
