Good morning. It was 5 F here this morning.

- “A truly gifted writer, particularly one on spiritual subjects, I think, or at least in my own reading, evidences more of a power in his ability to inspire further thoughts, than in his written words alone.” An example offered.

- Facts, who needs facts? One wonders why the networks don’t have a running “realtime” fact-check on a ticker. Mr Gardner also comments on the former President’s “help” on Ms Clinton’s campaign.
- 90% of Iraqi suicide/homicide bombers were foreigners.
- “I believe that the love of our enemies is utterly essential to the love of God. If we do not love our enemies, we will not know God, nor rightly love Him. Indeed, I believe that we only know God to the extent that we love our enemies.” More here.

- Abortion noted here as well.
- Another view of the state of the debate on abortion here. Pro-choice “losing the moral high ground.” In which high ground is seen as “respectability”?

First I’d heard of him. Using this jerk to denigrate liberals in general makes no more sense than “explaining” a hatred of Christians by pointing to Fred Phelps.
Mark, I continue to be surprised at you. Your blog is generally reasonable and fair, if a bit… unique. But some of the links you post go to the worst sorts over-generalizations and general mean-spiritedness I’ve seen.
JA,
I wasn’t actually trying to denigrate liberals. I don’t read that many liberal blogs. When a Pat Robertson makes an outrageous statement, the left sometimes wonders at the presence (or absence) of those on the right distancing themselves or repudiating that statement. This person, it seemed is in the news. The question I was asking was similar to those regarding outrageous behavior on the right.
I don’t expect every left wing blog to respond to this sort of thing. I don’t, for example, repudiate every right wing outrageous statement or action. But then again, I don’t regularly comment on current news and events and don’t feel obliged to comment on “everything” as it were. But there are blogs, e.g., Captain’s Quarters that try to do that.
For example, I did read a report this morning (by a right leaning) blog uttering dismay that the regrettable Mr Phelps is planning to picket the funeral of Mr Ledger. That is the sort of remark/comment on current events that I was asking for from the left. A “this happened” and a repudiation of what it represents. You calling him “a jerk” is just such a statement. And your blog for example, doesn’t cover news in such a way as I’d expect you to even note it.
I will however, have to say the “worst sort” of mean spiritedness was and is not linked here. There are quite a number of relatively vicious right wing (and left wing blogs), which always demonize the other side and worse. Of the blogs linked, one mostly included a long citation from news reports and the other cited a Cub player as a former “most hated” and noted this Chicago lawyer as a possible replacement. This seems to me, relatively mild on the “mean-spirited” or “over-generalization” scale.
Mark,
I wasn’t actually trying to denigrate liberals.
Oh, I didn’t mean to say you were, but the post you linked to was titled “Why Liberal Is A Dirty Word To Me.” A post about Fred Phelps called “Why Christian Is A Dirty Word To Me” would be equivalent.
When a Pat Robertson makes an outrageous statement, the left sometimes wonders at the presence (or absence) of those on the right distancing themselves or repudiating that statement.
Pat Robertson is a political and religious leader who has millions of followers and has the ear of presidents. This is a story about some low-life nobody would have ever heard of who thinks keying a car is a political statement.

Some of the links you’ve posted in the past have been painting liberals with such a broad brush of evil and bigotry and irrationality that it makes me angry. Perhaps that says more about me than the actual mean-spiritedness of the links, though. Sorry I can’t come up with any examples off the top of my head.
JA,
I didn’t trigger (key?) on the headline but instead on the body, the article itself didn’t seem so offensive, but I’ll agree the header is.
