Household News

Our hot water heater (cold water inlet) pipe sprung a leak last weekend (of the squirting don’t ignore me variety). The shut-off valve was old and of the twist type and was frozen. I got it to move with a wrench … until it snapped off … fortunately after the squirting was down to a trickle. The water heater was old enough (about 11 years) and we live in a locale with sediment laden water (and haven’t been draining sediment monthly as we should (just about nobody does I understand). Thus we decided to replace it and try going “tankless”. We now have the pipe replaced (and … well … its got a very slow drip I’ll fix Saturday). But in a few weeks (a month?) I’ll report on tanklessness. Tankless has the benefit of energy savings, a tax credit (thank you … not!), and less sensitivity to sediment via the no tank feature. Below is what we plan on getting.

Hey, great news! Well, I’m sorry you had to replace the tank — been there. But I’m going to be interested in your evaluation of tankless water heating. It seems like a good idea, but I do wonder how it performs in the real world.
