From what I understand Afghan policy is being reviewed now. Whether that means there will be more direct conversations between the two still seems to me less about performance than management style.

I think many of Polansky's sympathizers are getting tripped up on the 'underage sex' conviction coupled with what appears to be improper behavior by a prosecutor and the judge to 'spring a surprise' on Polansky. This wasn't a Lolitaish affair but a rape (actually was the affair in Lolita consensual? I don't recall).

Boonton,
For my 2 cents, I don't have a strong opinion on what sentencing or what not. But my unanswered thought regarding Mr. Polanski is that drugging, raping, and sodomizing a 13 y/o is not where transgressive behaviour starts. This is just what he got caught doing. There is a long rocky road of behaviour before things get that far out of hand. And a lot of that road is on the wrong side of the law not to speak of any reasonable moral code. I'm unclear on the reasoning on those who would defend his past and accuse those who would continue with suit "puritanical".

On Obama. he campaigned under the guise that Afghanistan was the important venue. Publicly he has stated that he is re-assessing the Afghan situation. Not talking to the commanders in the field is not how to reassess, IMO.

I think Polanski should be brought back and given the original time served sentence that was his plea bargain. I think the early 70's took both rape and underage sex less seriously than we do today and that represented what the society of the day felt was the standard punishment. He did do something very bad. He drugged and raped a girl. But he was charged and plead to 'underaged sex' . I agree if the victim was demanding justice I'd be more inclined to a harsher sentence but right now the end should come to this affair. Whether or not its perfect justice won't be deteremined on this side of the grave, IMO.

This story got a lot of repeats as well, and if true, then that will be yet another indictment against the performance of Mr Obama.

I'm not exactly sure why this is an indictment against his perofrmance rather than his management style....and even so taking a 'hands off' approach for 70 days or so is not automatically wrong in my book.

# This reminds me I still have to watch last weeks episode of Dollhouse.

I'm still bitter about Firefly being canceled. There's so little good science fiction out there! And Terminator too, though that wasn't Whedon.
